So, you want to add stuff to DotB-wiki. Here's how:

Pressing the edit tab above let's you see the source of a page. Thus seeing how it has been made and enabling you to "borrow" the code from that page. So if you want to add a character, just go to any of the already made characters (as seen below on this page. And copy that text in the page you want to create yourself, then replace the information by your own information and you're good to go.

To create a page you can simply add the name of the page (Wiki's are case-sensitive) in the search box and press "go", if the page doesn't exist yet you will get a link saying "create this page" besides the results your search generated.

General tips

  • Wiki support it's own coding and HMTL so those with knowledge of HTML can go a long way.
  • There's a help button in the navigation area.
  • You can ask questions here, just press edit to add a message to the talk page.

To post a link to a page, simply add the name between brackets like this:

Gonzo Salvato

which turns out like this Gonzo Salvato.

To post a link to a page, but with a different name then the page is, add a | between the page and the name. Like this:

Mr. Aggro the World

which turns out like this Mr. Aggro the World.

interwiki: add interwiki tags for easy referencing other wiki's

Referencing guildwiki (http://www.guildwiki.org) pages: Curses Necromancer

Referencing guildwiki (http://www.guildwiki.org) pages: Curses Necromancer

Note: both 'guildwiki' and 'gw' link to the same wiki

Referencing wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.com) pages: Guild Wars Necromancer

Referencing wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.com) pages: Guild Wars Necromancer

Note: both 'wikipedia' and 'w' link to the same wiki

tag: sort

Added a new extension that creates a tag to sort lists: <sort>

see Sort

It works like this:

<sort>
all
your
base
are
belong
to
us
</sort>

Will produce this:

  • all
  • are
  • base
  • belong
  • to
  • us
  • your

Enjoy!

Create your own signature

Custom signature:

  1. Go to your user page. It should be something like http://dotb-wiki.vader.dk/index.php/User:Name, where Name is your username
  2. Create an article by typing /sig after your user name in your browser's address bar. For example: http://dotb-wiki.vader.dk/index.php/User:Name/sig
  3. This should prompt you to create a new article User:Name/sig
  4. You can start the article by clicking on the link that says something like Start the Name/sig article. In reality, you can call the article anything you like
  5. Copy and/or modify this sample custom signature or view other's custom signatures for ideas (e.g. Vader:
  6. <strong>Your Name or Nickname</strong>  talk contribs
    1. This sample would produce a signature similiar to this: --Your Name or Nickname talk contribs 12:00, 31 January 2007 (CET)
  7. Paste your modified version in your /sig article and save the page
  8. Go to your preferences page
  9. Under User data, look for the box that says "Your nickname:"
  10. Type in that box, check the box that reads "Raw signatures (without automatic link)," and save your preferences
  11. Now whenever you are talking on a discussion page and press the signature button on the editing bar, it will have your custom signature on it

Purging cache (WYSINWYE What You See Is Not What You Expected)

If you edit or go to a page and it does not show up as expected, use the 'show preview' mode after edit to verify how it looks. If you are still annoyed with it, you can use this trick to force a purge of the page cache

Creating a new skill

  • On your character page add a section with (Adding the tag with Elite is optional, if its a regular skill, but here we create an elite skill):
==Skills Used==
*this is my new skill name (Elite)

  • Save it.
  • In the skill page (follow the link created by the above), type:
this is my new skill name

Optionally add more information like ==Acquisition== and/or ==Notes== to that page to extend the information about the skill

  • Save it.
  • In the skill template page (follow the link created by the above), type:
{{Skill box {}
   | name = This is my new skill name
   | campaign = Prophecies
   | profession = Necromancer
   | attribute = Death Magic
   | type = Spell
   | elite = yes
   | energy = 48
   | activation = 1/30
   | recharge = 842
   | description = This is my new elite skill. Use it wisely.
}}

  • Save it.
  • Upload an icon image of 64x64 pixels in size for the skill via any of the image links that the above steps have created.

The skill box has many many options, including support for Shout or Signet as type, the different campaigns, professions and attributes, and the progression bars for attribute levels of your skill. Find inspiration from skill pages and see how they are done. (Skill pages:"AGGRO THE WORLD!" and Muh, Skill template pages: template:"AGGRO THE WORLD!" and template:Muh

All these steps will ensure automatic categorizing and other useful things so you don't have to think about it too much.

'Virtual level' means the level your character would be if there was no level 20 cap

It works like this:

<character_statistics>
Zum Garon (Warrior),1231,771,7128151
Doli Capax (Necromancer),950,629,3752886
Zarine De Rippa (Warrior),696,189,1988878

Zenia Ghola (Ritualist),32,1,144562
Arhev Jezvahted (Monk),31,0,154532
</character_statistics>

The tag is used like this:

<character_statistics>
<text>,<hours played>,<deaths>,<xp>
</character_statistics>

Optionally you can use a 'style' attribute to specify table styling in CSS (see how its done in the guildwars_ladder tag on the front page)
